The GSWF protective film (non-yellowing) consists of polyurethane.
Without sustained maintenance it will accumulate dirt.
The GSWF protective film is to be cleaned weekly and to be maintained in order to seem the most invisible possible. You can wax it to eliminate static and clean it like all other surfaces of your vehicle.
For wax residue left on the edges, use a Q-tip dipped in rubbing alcohol and the results will be immediate and eective.
NOT RECOMMENDED
• Abrasive cleaners
• Degreaser solvent-based
• Ammonia based cleaner
• High-speed polishing
• Compounds of friction or other types of abrasive materials
APPLICATION GUIDE
Why
GSWF PPF films are specially developed for protecting car bodywork. Its excellent shock-absorbing properties protect your bodywork against chips caused by stones, insects, car doors, washing brushes, etc.
Relations
All information in this guide is also related to the technical data sheet and warranty sheet for the products described in this guide.
How
To achieve an optimum result, thoroughly clean the surface before applying any GSWF®- paint protection film. Please test any wax or after-market sealant before applying to the PPF. Not all products are compatible with all PPF topcoats. Extremely hydrophobic PPF topcoats may interfere with application of wax or other coatings.
1. Cleaning the vehicle should generally be cleaned with conventional cleaning agents. Do not use substances
attended to form a coating or sealing layer by means of nanotechnology on the surface to be cleaned.
a) Clean the vehicle on the day before in a car wash tunnel (brush washing – no hand washing!)
b) Thoroughly check surfaces and edges for residues of preservative wax or polishing agents and remove them with
industrial cleaning agents or silicone remover (not only isopropanol).
c) Final cleaning should always be done with be cleaned with isopropanol. This will remove all residues of any used
cleaning agents.
d) Now dry the vehicle, use a hot air blower to remove any residual moisture
Film bonding
We recommend using only material of the same batch. If you want to use material from different batches anyway this is done on your own risk.
Always test bonding
After cleaning the vehicle and before final application you need to make a bonding test and to
check the final bonding strength of the film after 24 hours. For comparison purposes, we recommend bonding the film at the same time on a different solid surface (such as a windowpane). Should the bonding strength be too high and / or gas bubbles develop, repeat the cleaning process
Any fresh new paint must have dried for at least 7 days at 25 °C (77 °F) to outgas completely.
An outgassing test must be carried out before applying the film.
Any old, paint must be sanded and renewed before application and must undergo a tear-off test.
Processing conditions
• The recommended minimum application temperature is +10 °C (+50 °F). Preferably, apply at a temperature ranging from
+15 °C to +35 °C (from +59 °F to +95 °F).
• Installation should be done in a clean area protected from airborne dust andother particulates that could result in
unsatisfying final result.
Application
- Measure the parts to be covered. Cut the PPF-film while leaving a margin of at least 10 cm (4 in.) around the surface to be covered in order to stretch it during application and avoid any finger marks.
- Always apply GSWF PPF-film according to the «wet» method, using soap water or a non-alcohol application gel.
- To apply with soap water, mix with 1 to 3 ml of pH-neutral soap per litre of water. This mixture can be easily removed. Use only water for tack solution.
- Carefully separate the liner from the film
- Spray the vehicle body to be protected as well as the adhesive-coated side of the PPF-film with the soapy liquid. This will enable a better positioning of the product on the vehicle.
- Firmly stretch the PPF-film and position it (adhesive-coated side on the car) For an optimal wrapping of a concave or convex surface, it may be necessary to soften the film using a steamer or hot water in a separate container.
- Apply the film using a PPF-squeegee. To ensure that the squeegee glides easily, spray the soapy liquid onto the PPF-film.
- Hold the squeegee at 45°. Press firmly to adhere the film to the surface and to remove the application liquid. Once the PPF-film is applied, cut it carefully with a sharp new blade. Preferably carbon steel. Finish by running the squeegee over the cut. In bent edges and contours put pressure to the edge with a PPF-glove and make sure all liquid in removed. If you use a steamer or liquid is left under the PPF-film at the edges, let it dry and then run over the edges again with pressure with a squeegee or a PPF-glove. If any wrinkles appear you can put pressure on the wrinkle with your finger for 30 seconds.
Maintenance and Care Instructions
- Do not wash the vehicle for 48 hours after installation.
- Avoid directly spraying the edges of the PPF with a pressure washer or a nozzle. Doing so may lift the edge of the film.If using a high-pressure washer keep the nozzle at least 36” from the film surface (and avoid spraying the edges) and a maximum temperature of 35 °C (95 °F).
- Do not use pigmented or abrasive waxes or waxes containing naphtha or kerosene.
- Do not use any abrasive pads or harsh chemicals on the film.
- If choosing to wax the car and film (after testing for compatibility) do so at least once every 6 months.
- Remove stains as soon as possible. Stubborn stains can be removed with isopropyl alcohol. Avoid wiping the film in direct sunlight or if the film is hot.
